6'0" is not a cut-off at any level.
1,097 of the 11,894 rostered D1 players in this window (9%) are 6'0" or shorter, 1,656 of 10,779 at D2 (15%) and 3,713 of 15,861 at D3 (23%). Widen it to 6'2" or shorter and the shares become 23% at D1, 32% at D2 and 45% at D3.
Among guards, the share at 6'0" or under is 15% at D1, 24% at D2, 36% at D3.
The all-positions share mixes guards with forwards and centers, who are rarely this height. Read against guards only, 6'0" sits at the 15th percentile of D1 guards, the 24th of D2 guards and the 36th of D3 guards — the median guard is 6'3" at D1, 6'3" at D2, 6'1" at D3.
From D1 to D3 the whole ladder moves about 2 inches shorter at the middle.
The median rostered player is 6'5" at D1, 6'4" at D2 and 6'3" at D3. The shortest tenth is 6'1" or under at D1 and 5'11" or under at D3; the tallest tenth is 6'10" or over at D1 and 6'7" or over at D3.

Why "too short" is the wrong question
No height closes a level. 1,097 rostered D1 players in 2021–22 to 2025–26 stand 6'0" or shorter, and 9,159 stand taller than 6'2"; the same level holds both. What changes between levels is the shape of the ladder — the median moves from 6'5" at D1 to 6'3" at D3 — and with it how common a given height is.
The right question is where a height sits on the ladder of the level in question, and at the position in question. At 6'0" that is the 9th percentile of all D1 players and the 15th percentile of D1 guards, against the 23rd percentile of all D3 players and the 36th percentile of D3 guards.
What 6'0" looks like at each level
At D1, 9% of rostered players are 6'0" or under and 23% are 6'2" or under; the middle half stands 6'3" to 6'8". At D2, 15% of rostered players are 6'0" or under and 32% are 6'2" or under; the middle half stands 6'2" to 6'6". At D3, 23% of rostered players are 6'0" or under and 45% are 6'2" or under; the middle half stands 6'1" to 6'5".
Among guards alone: 15% of D1 guards are 6'0" or under, with a median of 6'3"; 24% of D2 guards are 6'0" or under, with a median of 6'3"; 36% of D3 guards are 6'0" or under, with a median of 6'1". A guard's height is judged against other guards, and that is the comparison the by-position table makes.
How to read this for your own case
How to read itFind where your height sits at each level, not whether it clears a line.
The ladder table gives each level's 10th, 25th, median, 75th and 90th percentile. A height at or under D1's 10th percentile, 6'1", is one that 1,763 D1 players in this window carry; it is rare there, not absent.
Then read your position, because the all-positions number understates a guard's case.
The median D1 guard is 6'3" and the median D3 guard 6'1"; 15% of D1 guards and 36% of D3 guards are 6'0" or under. A 6'0" forward is a different case from a 6'0" guard, and the by-position table separates them.
A share is a description of who made a roster, never a requirement.
These are the players who were rostered. The data cannot see the 6'0" players who were not, so it says what each level looks like — about one D3 player in 4 and one D1 player in 11 is 6'0" or under — not what a coach will accept.

- Sample
- 38,534 distinct rostered players with a listed height between 5'0" and 7'6", each counted once at the division of their most recent season in the window: 11,894 at D1, 10,779 at D2, 15,861 at D3. A cell with fewer than 30 players is not shown.
- Level
- The division of the player's most recent season in the window. A player who moved between levels is counted where they were last listed.
